The Last Supper
This Renaissance masterpiece by polyhedric genius Leonardo da Vinci is really a worth the trip highlight!
The painting is housed in the original refectory of the Santa Maria delle Grazie monastery and commissioned by the Sforza Lords at the end of the XIV century.
Leonardo da Vinci depicts Jesus Christ and his apostoles the night before the Crucifixion. More exactly, we are witnessing them at a point in the narrative after which Christ has made a great revelation to the apostles: one of them will betray Christ (“One of you is about to betray me”, Matthew 26:21 ).
The psychological climax of the characters is here enhanced by the innovative use of perspective and composition, making Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper one of the most intense thus expressive paintings of Italian Rinascimento.
